Bruin entered our lives in November 2007 as a rescue weighing only 62 pounds with too many health issues to count. He was unable to stand for any period of time without his frame collapsing. His slow road to recovery took close to a year but he gained more than twice his original weight with the most glorious full coat one can imagine. Bruin died in October of 2009 from heart failure. He blessed our home with understanding, grace, and the stoicism one might expect from an elderly professor. Bruin, along with his sister Piper, was awarded the 2008 Outstanding Service Dog Award by the Great Pyrenees Club of America for defending Mommy and stopping a mugging. His award and medal continue to proudly hang on the wall at Barkalounge as a memorial to this amazing and magical creature. Goodnight my sweet, sweet angel—we will be together again.
